Large-capacity projector or beamer – The different technologies

A modern projector differs in the light source and chip technology used, with two technical processes currently dominating the market.

DLP- Projector

With this beamer technology the light hits a rotating colour filter. A multitude of small moving mirrors deflect the light and project it through a lens onto the wall.

LCD-Projector

This technology splits the light into its three primary colours via a prism. The resulting light beams are directed through LCD chips and then combined into an image via another prism.

The term laser projector or LED beamer refers exclusively to the light source used. Therefore laser beamers can be DLP beamers as well as LCD beamers. LED projectors are always DLP beamers.
